INTRODUCING THE REVISED NEW EMPLOYEE ONBOARDING PROGRAM ON JULY 6TH
Do you remember your first day at UBC?
Trying to digest a mountain of information during a full day of orientation and training isn’t easy. We know that the first day on a job can be challenging in itself without an information overload. Following feedback from our recently hired new employees, we’re changing the structure of our new employee onboarding program to two half day sessions, giving new employees the time they need to process everything they have learned. The orientation will take place in the mornings with the rest of the day spent with their manager and Head learning about their shop and the department.
The second piece of the New Employee Orientation program recognizes that successful onboarding takes months and so new employees, managers and heads now have toolkits to help make sure we don’t miss the chance to help a new hire get familiar and productive within our workplace.
This new process starts on Monday, July 6th and it would be awesome if you can introduce yourself to new employees to help welcome them to Building Ops.

ASSET STRATEGY REVIEW IN PROGRESS
Thanks to those who provided comments on the posters opposite the Tool Crib.
On July 15 and 16, we are booking feedback sessions with managers, heads and sub-heads to get their input and validate the information in our asset. We need input on the categorization of assets, who is responsible to do work on the asset lists , who is the lead crew, and who is accountable for creating the maintenance program (eg. should this asset be run to fail or does it need a PM program?). In these sessions we will also identify critical attributes of the asset that need to be collected.
